Head Coach Emily Renzini

Head Coach Emily Renzini is no stranger to swim meets. She started swimming competitively at six years old and completed her collegiate career at the University of Idaho in 2016. At U of I, Coach Emily excelled in butterfly and had career bests in the 100 fly and 400 IM.

Coaching has provided Emily with a new perspective of the pool deck. "Watching my athletes grow and achieve their goals is very rewarding, it's why I coach. The pool was my safe place -- I hope I can create that feeling for every member on our team."

When Coach Emily is not at the pool, you can find her shredding the snow up at Schweitzer Mountain, whitewater rafting or camping in the beautiful mountains of Idaho and Montana.

Why do I swim?

I love to swim because it feels like freedom to me. I feel weightless and I can sharpen my focus into moving my body through the water. It distracts me from life outside the water. I think swimming is a very special sport in that sense, that we are essentially in a different element than we are used to and our muscles are pushing, pulling and driving us through water, unlike walking or running on the ground. It's rejuvenating.

I have been swimming for about twenty years, minus some time I took off for having my children and raising them a little. I grew up on the island of Kauai in a small town called Kalaheo. I swam for Swim Kauai Aquatics for several years and went off to college and swam for the University of Idaho Vandals. I graduated in 2018.

I am passionate about this sport because it is challenging, yet so rewarding. Swimming has brought me immense joy and personal success. I've also had my fair share of disappointments and failures. I believe that having these kinds of experiences builds character and resilience in kids. Water safety - knowing how to swim, how to hold your breath, blow bubbles underwater, knowing when and where it is safe to swim -- is another aspect and first priority of mine when it comes to swimming.

I am passionate about coaching this sport because of the memories I've made swimming in club and in college. The fun memories, the lessons, friendships and team spirit are what lasts in my mind forever. Nothing compares to having those great experiences - accomplishments, failures and everything in between, with your friends by your side and your coach encouraging you to be your best. I remember many things my coaches have said and taught me. I am grateful and inspired to make the same impact on the athletes I coach.

I started gymnastics at five years old, and I trained and competed for the next 10 years. I was a member of one of the top teams in Mexico, the country where I grew up.

Gymnastics taught me a lot more than flips and turns. It taught me discipline, perseverance, setting and achieving goals, teamwork, as well as, living a fulfilling and healthy life.

I moved to the US to study engineering at Northeastern Univ. During college I also learned to swim at a competitive level for triathlons, joined the sailing team and completed my first marathon. Since then I have accomplished many long distance events including Ironman, running and nordic ski marathons and long distance open water swims including swimming the length of Lake Pend Oreille.

I moved to Sandpoint in 2011, participating since then at Long Bridge Swim and CDA Crossing. I’m currently the assistant coach for cross country and distance track and field teams at SHS. In the summer, I help coach youth sailing.

I’m exited to join the coaching team for the Sharks. My greatest passion in life is sports. As a coach, my goal is to inspire boys and girls to learn and enjoy sports, achieve their goals and live healthy lives.
